SUCCESSFUL FETE.

HELD AT WAINGARO. OVER £llO RAISED. A very successful fete in afd of St. Mary’s Homes, Otahuhu, was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs Picken, Waingaro. The weather was all that could be desired and there was a good attendance, people coming from Nga--ruawahia, Raglan, and the surrounding districts. A large marquee, kindly lent for the occasion by the Farmers’ Auctioneering Company, Hamilton, was erected in the large field, and under the canvas were stalls of various descriptions. Competitions and side-shows were the order of the day. The two tennis courts were also well patronised. A feature of great interest to the younger set was a Christmas tree laden with good things, with a very' cheerful Father Christmas in attendance. The smiles on the faces of the children as they came away were evidence of the satisfactory distribution of the wares.

The Ngaruawahia Band kindly gave their services, and the music was much appreciated, as was also the kindness of the driver, Mr R. Gibb, who arranged for the conveyance of the bandsmen free of any charge. The stall-holders worked very hard, and the promoters feel very grateful to all who assisted in making a success of the venture. An art union, in which people from far and near were interested, was drawn at 3 p.m., and the nine prizes were won by the following ticket-holders: Nos. 68, 144, 163, 301, 108, 519, 167, 590 and 406. The result of the whole day’s pleasure was the handsome sum of £llO, free of all expenses, to be handed to the object named above.
