A reduction in the rate of interest for local borrowing has been made by the Wellington City Council. Until recently it has been paying 54 per cent, hut it is now offering 5} per cent.

About £20,000 was raised at this rate ‘‘over the counter’’ last week. It is considered that the rate for municipal debentures will be reduced to per cent throughout New Zealand.
