WELLINGTON TROTS.

NATIVE PRINCE EPISODE. WELLINGTON CLUB EXPLAINS. (By Telegraph.—Pr«.ss Association.) WELLINGTON, Tuesday. Officials of the Wellington Trotting Club have made the following explanation in regard to the scratching of Native Prince for all engagements at the Wellington meeting on Saturday:— “Mrs J. E. Sweetapple, owner of Native Prince, telegraphed from Auckland: ‘Native Prince is unfairly handicapped; withdraw him from all engagements.’ The Wellington Club’s officials, discovering that Mrs Sweetapple had the impression that her horse was handicapped on 15yds, as published incorrectly in an Auckland newspaper, telegraphed: ‘Correct handicap of Native Prince is 12yds. Do you wish to cancel the scratching?’, “The club then received a telegram from Mrs Sweetapple: ‘Accept all engagements.’ “The Wellington Club rules that it did not receive Mrs Sweetapple’s first telegram, and waited for the confirmation of the scratching after she had learned the correct handicap. Under these circumstances it is ruled by the club that Native Prince is an acceptor for Saturday’s meeting at Hutt Park.”
