SHAW ON TOTEM POLE. SCULPTOR’S WEIRD WORK. G.B. SUSPENDS JUDGMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.; (Received January 15, 9.15 a.m.) LONDON, January 14. The weirdest of many weird things at the exhibition of the work of M. Sava Botzaris, the Serbo-Grcek sculptor, is one representing Bernard Shaw. “Shaw in plus fours or astride a charger is unthinkable. He wants a symbol, so 1 have made him a totem pole,” said M. Botzaris. The result is something akin to the. pillar of a Maori hut, surmounted by carefully-parted hair, beetling eyebrows, and a few wisps of whiskers. A wag suggested at first glance, “It’s Lot’s wife.”
Mr Shaw will suspend judgment till he has seen “Caricature,” but says: “I think a totem pole is a good idea, because I appear to be a totem to a good many people. I only hope M. Botzaris has made it tolerably good.”
