FRAMKTON CITIZENS.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION ELECTRICAL CHARGES. The Frankton Citizens’ Association met last evening, Mr D. D. Wilson presiding over a fair attendance. At the previous meeting of the Association a letter was sent to the Hamilton Borough Council pointing out that the time was opportune for a reduction in electrical charges in the Hamilton Borough. The reply received from the Council was to the effect that their proposal had been received but it was considered impracticable at present. The reply was most unsatisfactory, said Mr Wilson, and certainly called for further comment.
Mr Andrews was of the opinion that the time was ripe for the proposal as set out in the letter previously forwarded to the Council. Power Boards were willing to go out of their way to cater- for suppliers, and gave power at a cheaper rate than the Borough Council. It appeared to him that electric suppliers were being forced to shoulder the loss entailed through gas supply. It was extraordinary that Power Boards would go four miles down a road to pick up several consumers, whereas consumers in the Hamilton Borough were continually seeking power. If was decided to write advising the Council that their communication had been received and that the answer was not satisfactory, and that electrical charges should be brought into line with those of Power Boards.
A sub-committee consisting of Messrs D. D. Wilson,- J. S. Anchor, B. H. Andrews, F. Cooper-Smith and E. Pointon was appointed to meet a subcommittee from the Domain Board to discuss improvements at the Lake Grounds of vital interest to Frankton. That the “wig-wag” signal at the dangerous Lake crossing in Lake Road was difficult to see at night was subject of comment by Mr Andrews. It was resolved to request the Council to have an electric light fixed on the hill side of the crossing so that the signal would be pldinly visible to traffic at night. * It was decided to request the Borough Council to take action with regard to the prevalence of noxious weeds in Frankton. On Mr Pointon’s motion it was resolved to advise the Council of damage sustained to footpaths in Colombo and Bandon Streets.
