BYRD’S EXPEDITION. THE ELEANOR BOLLING. TO LEAVE DUNEDIN AT ONCE. lßy Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Thursday. As favourable reports have been received of the breaking up of the ice pack in Ross Sea an earlier departure than was anticipated will be made by the steamer Eleanor Bolling for Commander Byrd’s base in the Bay of Whales. She will leave Dunedin immediately on the completion of loading, cither to-night or to-morrow morning. She should reach the base on January 22, and will then turn back to Dunedin. Should the season not be 100 far advanced another trip to the Antarctic with supplies will be made this summer.

In a copyright message Sir Hugh Wilkins states: “The weather is colder and the surface harder. We hope to explore the land, using skis, but the atmosphere is at present unfavourable for exploration work. The fog renders visibility of the poorest. We tried yesterday to hear Commander Byrd’s station, without success."
