MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS,
TAKE PLACE IN MAY. POSITION IN HAMILTON. Municipal elections throughout New Zealand will be held on May 1 next. The position in Hamilton is that 12 councillors will be required as at present, exclusive of the Mayor. At present, owing to the death of the late Cr. O. R. Farrer, one seat is vacant, and it has been considered, in view of the near approiach of the general election, that the expense of “a by-election to fill the seat is not warranted.
His Worship the Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, who has served as a councillor for 21 years, and been Mayor for nine years, when asked by a Times representative to-day if he intended to again offer his services for the highest office the town has to offer, stated that if the people desired him to do so he would.
Other names have been mentioned as likely candidates for the Mayoralty. Those mentioned most prominently are Dr. F. D. Pinfold and Mr J. Gilbert. Interviewed regarding their Intentions, both said that at this stage they had no announcement to make. It is anticipated that the majority of the sitting councillors will again offer themselves for election.
