THE DUPLEX SYSTEM.

(To the Editor.) gj r with reference to the remarks made’at the recent Claudeiands Anglican meeting in connection with the house to house cavnass, where an unsatisfactory statement was made as a suit of a certain member’s experience, might I say that quite voluntarily I agreed to help the Cathedral Chapter and canvassed a portion of Hamilton West district, and -with one exception where I saw the occupiers personally, was successful in getting them to adopt the above system, and in no case did I meet with a refusal. The exception referred to was a subscriber who had a grievance and had not contributed in the usual way, but when I pointed out that my purpose was to collect for the upkeep of the Church and everybody was entitled to their opinion, whatever it might be as to doctrine, etc., it was obvious that support must be forthcoming for the church. 1 am pleased to say the subscriber referred to agreed before I left to send his cheque along, adding if there was an improvement in affairs he would supplement it. Further, two of the houses called on, I found the people had left, but the present occupiers were Anglicans and each agreed to contribute to the church and accordingly adopted the duplex system One lady remarked she was very pleased to see this church had adopted the idea as she had come from a district where it had been very successful In conclusion, the parishioners will probably be surprised to learn what a difference it has already made, hut that is not for me to say. In Rotorua, I believe, the church there has increased its revenue threefold. Much depends on the way a canvass is made; two people might do the same round, but arrive at different results. I hope each person who has canvassed successfully will say so.—l am, Ct ' " F. H. CLAPHAM, Hamilton, Dec. 15, 1928.
