ACCIDENTAL DEATH.
OLD MAN'S FATE. DROWNED IN CREEK. An elderly man, Mr Allan Sinclair, was found drowned in the Waitomo Creek on Saturday morning. The deceased, who was the proprietor of the Underwood Pig Farm, which is two miles from Otorohanga, was in the habit of having his meals and sleeping at the Commercial Hotel, working on the farm during the day. Mr Sinclair did not arrive for dinner on Friday night, and when on Saturday morning it was discovered that his" bed had not been slept in the police were notified and a search was organised. Mr Sinclair's hat was found on the bank of the Waitomo Creek, which runs through his farm, and dragging operations were commenced. The body was recovered shortly afterwards.
An inquest was held in the afternoon. Evidence was given that the deceased went to draw water from the creek and evidently slipped in. The coroner, Mr R. M. Sommerville, of Tc Kuiti, returned a verdict of accidental death.
The late Mr Sinclair is believed to have a married daughter residing in Australia.
