MR A. COWIE. AUCKLAND, Tuesday. The death occurred at Mount Eden yesterday of Mr Andrew Cowie, aged 82, a well-known temperance worker, and husband of Mrs Lee Cowie. K.C.8., K.C.V.0., entered the Scots Guards in 1869. He served in the following wars:—Ashanti, Sudan, Burmah, South Africa (in which he commanded the Scots Guards). He commanded the forces in Ireland 1911-17, and had the Eastern Command from 1908 to 1911. AMERICAN WHEAT KING. CHICAGO, Dec. 8. Mr James A. Patten, at one time "Wheat King" of the United States, died to-day from pneumonia.
