EXCELLENT DAIRY SEASON

WAIKATO OUTPUT INCREASES. PRICES ARE WELL MAINTAINED. OCTOBER CHEQUES WELL ABOVE LAST SEASON'S. October has been a most successful month for dairy companies throughout the Waikato, the returns for the month far exceeding those of the corresponding month of last season. The season so far has been an ideal one and the rich pastures of the Waikato district have responded well. The figures for the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company, which comprise over 80 per cent of the aggregate are not available, but the seasonal movement may be gauged from the returns of the other companies. Twelve companies have paid out for the month £159,830 —an increase of £29,819 over the same month of the 1927 season. Two of these companies—Tokoroa and Kakepuku, both cheese manufacturing companies are only three months into their new season and cannot therefore be taken into account in the total payout for the season to date. These two companies have for the month advanced £3864, or £247 more than for October 1927. The other ten companies for the five months of the season have paid out to suppliers fully £334,619, compared with £260,744 for the corresponding five months of 1927, in increase of £73,875, or over 25 per cent. The rate of payout for October was just about equal to that of October last year, so that the increase in total payments represents a similar rise in production. The companies have 'different methods of payment. Some include cartage costs, and the co-operative companies made advance payments and later, when their produce is marketed and their final returns come to hand, make bonus payments to their suppliers. The rates below should therefore be read more for comparison between seasons than between one company and another.
