J Even in his serious illness the King J has strikingly revealed the kindliness *■■ that endeared him to humble folk. ■ When Old Kate, a centenarian famibar '.to racegoers, called at Buckingham "Palace, the King commanded that a , letter be written thanking her for her kindly interest. The letter was handed over by '- Major Featherstonhaugh, manager of ' the Royal stables at Kempton Park \ Racecourse to-day. When asked about the letter Old ; Kate said: "That's my business Im ; not going to show it to anybody -■You want to know overmuch. me * ■ King alwavs shakes hands with me ' when we meet on the racecourse.
