ANTARCTIC EXPEDITION.
LEAVES THIS AFTERNOON. COMMANDER'S FAREWELL MESSAGE THANKS FOR HOSPITALITY. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Saturday. The City of New York will leave about three o'clock this afternoon for the Bay of Whales. Commander Byrd, in a farewell message, says: "When I told the people of the United States that we were going to make our departure for the Antarctic from New Zealand 1 soon became aware, from hundreds of remarks, that the people of my country have the highest regard for the people of New Zealand. Since our arrival here wc have had every evidence that the friendly spirit of my country is reciprocated. We have received courtesy and hospitality from all sides, and for my shipmates and myself I wish to express our deep appreciation. We are delighted that we have decided to make our departure from this country, and wc will be delighted to get back to it again after our task is completed. All the members of the expedition extend their best wishes to the people of New Zealand. Wc shall make every effort to uphold the traditions of Scott, Shackleton, Mawson and Amundsen."
