ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY

PUTARURU BRANCH. IMPORTANT BUSINESS. A general meeting of the Putaruru branch of the Auckland Acclimatisation Society was well attended, Mr S. C. Snell presiding. The parent body advised that six partridges bad beeu allotted to the branch.

Mr Bryant offered to take delivery and rear the birds on condition the branch paid for the feed. This offer was accepted with thanks. It was decided to recommend that all necessary information in regard to angling be obtained . from branches this season, so that the Anglers' Guide would be available for next season. It was decided to apply for an allocation of wild rice seed. Mr T. F. Snell advised that an endeavour would be made to rear trout from fry locally, owing to the heavy mortality which took place when fry was liberated direct to the streams. It was decided that an attempt be made, and Messrs West (Tokoroa) and Scholz (Putaruru) were appointed to go into the matter. The society emphasised the need for more rangers in the out-districts, and it was decided to recommend the appointment of Messrs W. McCarthy (Arapuni) and T. Weir (Tokoroa) as additional rangers. Mr McCarthy was appointed Arapuni agent of the branch and Mr West for Tokoroa. It was decided to recommend the parent body to issue honorary fishing and shooting licenses to members of the police force who were members of local branches.
