CHILDREN'S DANCE.

GREAT SUCCESS AT TE AWAMUTU. IN AID OF SCHOOL FUNDS. To say that the attendance at the children's plain and fancy dress dance at the Te Awamutu Town Hall on Friday evening exceeded all expectations is to put it mildly. The hall was soon crowded with youngsters, manywearing fancy costumes, and they romped and danced to their hearts' content. The arrangements made by the sub-committee in charge—Mrs W. H. Wood and Messrs 11. E. Wilson and A- 11. Roberts —were very complete, and Ihey had the assistance of several willing helpers, while the preparation and dispensing of supper was undertaken by wives of school committeemen. Excellent dance music, was provided by Dalton's Orchestra, and extras were contributed by Miss Budd and Messrs E. Holmes and Roy North. A pretty innovation was an old English folk dance by IS of the High School girls, instructed by Miss Norman. This item proved so popular that, it had to be repeated. The Grand March by the children in fancy costume gave the large crowd of onlookers a splendid opportunity to see the juveniles at their best, and though no prizes were awarded it, was perhaps just as well, as the infinite variety of the costumes and the cuteness of some of the conceptions would have made a judge's task extremely difficult. The attendance was swelled by the presence of a party of Cambridge High School pupils, who thus showed their goodwill to the local school's effort. They were warmly welcomed, and appeared to thoroughly enjoy the visit. The following is an almost complete list of the children wearing fancy costume : Joan Galloway, Frolic; Florrie Holmes, Rose; Kathleen Holmes, Evening; Dorothy .TefTery, Red-Whito-and-Blue; Aileen Roberts, Jazz Courtier: Lily Todd, Arabian Princess; Naomi Carvey, Rose; Tui Burchell, Green Moth;'Tufnell Burchell, Dutch Sailor; Ron McMahon, Bobin Hood; Noel McMahon, Uncle Sam; Linda Martaletti, Maori Maiden; Betty Allen, Pierrette; Eileen Phillips, The Glad Eye; Leo Arnold.
