Thousands of spectators watched a thrilling road race for the Boillot Cup at Boulogne. Several capsizes occur red, none of which was fatal. The race was over a triangular course of 23 miles SiO yards, which was covered 12 times. Captain Malcolm Campbell, driving a French Bugatti car, broke the lap record wlthO'Jm 15s, equal to 721 miles an hour. Detiilcux, in a Bugatti car, covered Ihc sixth lap in I lie world’s record lime of 18m 395, equal lo 75.125 miles an hour. . The ninth lap saw a desperate struggle between Detiilcux and Campbell, who retired after Detiilcux had beaten his record. Detiilcux was robbed of victory owing to a wheel of his'car collapsing.
The result was: Ivanowaki, in an Alfa-Romeo car, 1500 centimetres, 1. Time, ‘iii dim 05 2-ss. Speed, 07.75 miles per hour. Rousseau, Salmson car, 1094 centimetres, 2. Time, ill 34 m 57 2-ss. Marinoni, Alfa-Romeo car, 1500 centimetres, 3. Time, ill 38m 38 2-ss.
A crash compelled Captain Campbell to retire. lie did not dare to slow down, although his brakes were failing, because Detilieux was close behind in a higher-powered machine. Campbell’s car hit a bank and jumped on. into the air. An axle was bent, but Campbell was not burl.
