CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

meeting at morrinsville. a SATISFACTORY YEAR. U the annual meeting of the Morrinsvillc Chamber of Commerce, the president, Mr E. McGregor, in reviewing the work done by the Chamber during its first year of existence was alile to present a report that confirmed the general opinion that the chamber had entirely justified its existence. The chamber had linked up with the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce and by this means had been kept acquainted with the problems which are facing business and commercial interests throughout the Dominion. Visits had been exchanged with the. local branch of the Farmers’ Union, and as a practical expression of sympathy with the aims of that body the chamber had unanimously decided lo make a donation towards a proposed farming scholarship to lie awarded by the Morrinsville Branch of the Farmers’ Union. The chamber had endeavoured lo arrange a satisfactory basis for the lighting of the town on a community lighting basis, but unfortunately the Thames Valley Power Board had so far prevented the carrying out of the project. Very interesting addresses bad been given. Mr WelsLead had given an assurance that the Railway Department would recognise its liability for any pillaging that occurred, while goods were in transit. As a result of representations made to the Justice Department, Mr G. M. Cummer had been appointed acting-coroner in Morrinsville. The Prime Minister had Been waited upon during his visit to Morrinsville by a deputation urging the necessity for the appointment of a second constable at Morrinsville, but no satisfactory reply had been received. Preparations were being made by Lhe chamber for the entertainment of the party of 00 members of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce and other representative commercial men who were touring the Auckland Province next month As the balance sheet showed a credit balance the prospects of the chamber are very encouraging.
