Mr G. McCandlish Watt has been appointed a member of the Cambridge Domain Board. Mr Eric Maclean, a director of Messrs Jas. J. Niven and Co., Ltd., is in Hamilton, and is staying at the Hamilton Hotel. Second-Lieutenant J. Melville, of Ist C. Battalion, Waikato Regiment, has been transferred to the Hauraki Regiment. Messrs J. Hare, M. Benjamin, C. L. Tynell, P. G. White, W. A. E. Leonard, L. M. Muller, T. Casey, and T. N. Holinden (Auckland) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr Frank Hutchens, the New Zealander, was presented with a gold cigarette case upon retiring from the presidency of the 'New South Wales Musical Association. Mrs M. C. Jones, J. P., has been appointed an associate member of the Children’s Court at Hamilton under the-Child Welfare Act, 1925. Bishop Steward, who has recently resigned from the diocese of Melanesia, Is spending a few days in New Plymouth as the guest of Canon Strong. Sir Joseph Ward, who has been on a holiday visit to Britain, will arrive at Auckland to-morrow afternoon by the Aorangi. A call to an important charge in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, has been received by the Rev. Joseph W. Kemp, minister of the Auckland Baptist Tabernacle. Mr Kemp has not decided whether he will respond to the call.
At a meeting of Imperial Airways, Limited, Sir Eric Geddes announced his resignation from the board of directors in order to give his undivided attention to the organisation of the Dunlop Company. Mr W. M. 11. Diamond, postmaster at Hastings, has retired on superannuation after 40 years’ service, during three and a-half years of which he was in charge of the Hastings Post Ofllce. He was presented with an afternoon tea-set from the siafl. Mr Diamond was formerly postmaster at Te Aroha and Morrinsvilie. After the completion of 40 years’ service with the Postal Department, Mr F. W. Penlington, who- has held the position of chief postmaster at Dunedin since *1925, has retired ort superannuation. Member; of the postal service and the Telegraph Department yesterday afternoon presented Mr Penlington with a gold watch as a token of their esteem.
