MAUNGATAUTARL.
Ping-pong Dance. The dance held in the Maungatautari Hall to conclude the Ping Pong season proved a great success, there being a good crowd of local residents, and visitors, coming from Cambridge, Monavale and Hora Hora. It was a perfect night for dancing, and the floor was in good order. The hall was prettily decorated in pale pink and blue streamers. Dance music was supplied by Mrs J. Strawbridge, and Mr, R. Strawbridge made an efficient M.C. The Chocolate Waltz was won by Miss ltene Osborne and Mr Roy Strawbridge. A dainty supper was provided by the lady members of the club. When the electric light failed early in the evening nearby residents came to the rescue with candles, and with Hie moon (fortunately at the full) and one small kerosene lamp, these provided light enough to carry oh. Among those present were Mcsdames C. Middleton, Nobbs, Cooper, Watson, Trow, Peake, Brock (Auckland), Mason, Misses F. Strawbridge, F. Gibbons, K. Goodwin, A. Hammerton (Monavale), R. Osborne, I. Meeking, P. Dean, M. Osborne, R. Head, G. Ilay, D. Searle (Cambridge), M. Cooper, V. Middleton (Auckland). X. Hicks, C. Griffin, S. Hay, M. Meeking. Personal. Mrs Budge is spending a holiday in Auckland. Miss ’Middleton, of Auckland, is the guest of Mr and Mrs G. Middleton, of Ilora Hora. The Misses S. and G. Hay, of St. Cut'hbert’s College, Auckland, are spending their vacations here. Mr and Mrs Brock, of Auckland, are the guests of Mr and Mrs E. J. Peake, of Maungatautari.
The Weather. The weather is very unsettled, but it is only what can be expected at this time of the year. There have been several thunderstorms lately, and very heavy rain fell on Wednesday night. The rain is very beneficial to the grass, which has been top-dressed, and is looking decidedly fresh and green.
