SEASONABLE HATS.
PARIS WRITES OF LOVELY MODELS PARIS, July 5. The big designers of Paris seem to enjoy playing tricks with the seasons. In January we are introduced to hats and frocks suitable for July, and now that the weather is really hot several famous milliners have started “Autumn Hat’’ shows. The other afternoon, when the heat was tropical, I attended one of these functions and saw a whole series of felt and velvet models perched on the heads of mannequins clad in materials which were very fragile. Apropos the popular mannequin of the moment, she, or perhaps I should say IT, is largely composed of silvered xvax because some of the smartest milliners think I hat 1928 hats and helmets look to the best advantage when displayed by a wax mannequin of Futurist tendencies. Picture Hats In the Minority. There were very few really large picture hats, very many semi-cloche-semi-pokc-bonnel models, and numerous chic berets. The preponderance of darkish blue, something between sapphire and navy, was noticeable, and many grey models for older women were displayed. lam told that, silvered hair is going lo lie amazingly popular this coming winter, especially for prettv women of 35 to '>s. A Single Kiss'Curl Carefully Powdered. One of the most famous hairdressers in Paris recently told in'' that none of his host clients would now accept henna in any shape or form, rme of the very new ideas is a single kiss curl carefully powdered. The recent shows have convinced me that modified poke-bonnets will he worn These are rather fascinating headdresses which completely hide the hair. ’ if you citn imagine a genuine cloche hat cut rigid away at the hack and trimmed with ribbons which suggest strings, you will visualise what I mean. , , , . A particularly successful model of this order was made of black 101 l and lined with old-rose suede, Ihe ribbons which moulded the crown and dangled at one side being black satin lined with rose. A somewhat similar model was expressed in dark sapphire blue felt, with the brim worked over with strands of blue raffia in a trellis pattern. At Hie left side there was a large bow, with floating ends, of blue and silver plaid ribbon. Many Berets Worn at Lo Touquet. The picturesque poke-bonnet—or rather its fate —may slid rest on the knecs»of the gods, hut certain it is that the smart little beret is at tne moment resting on Hie dainty heads of the prettiest girls—especially at the fashionable seaside resorts. A friend of mine who visited at he I ouquet a few' days ago brought hack Hid •news that there, in the lorest as well as on the plage, herds were übiquitous specially those made of plaited raffia in several different colours or several shades of Ihe same colour It seems as though Ihe, jaunty beret had completely dethroned the mephisto helmet which has held its own so long “-A so insistentlx.
