CAUSES OF DEATH.
NEW ZEALAND’S FIGURES. Heart disease is the commonest cause of death in New Zealand and cancer comes next. The deaths frojn these two causes last year were 2150 and 1324 respectively. Pneumonia and bronchitis accounted for the loss of 823 lives, senility for 806, apoplexy for 771, and tuberculosis for 668- Infant deaths (in tlie first year of life) from various causes numbered 1080Kidney disease took 4 09. The deaths from each ol’ the other ailments numbered less than 200.
