Whilst waiting for a train to pass a road crossing at Waikohu, a horse ridden by • Peter Burns took fright and ran into a carriage of the train. The gas generator caught the horse and carried it and its rider over the cattle stop before throwing them clear. Burns was picked up unconscious, suffering slight concussion. The gas generator was torn from the carriage. ' •
