Tilden in the first game was unsteady, not judging the net approaches, as well as being the victim of clever passings; but in the second and third he better sized up Lacoste's tactics, out-volleyed him brilliantly, and severely dealt lobs. He eased" in the fourth, but fought tigerishly in the final.

In the second singles in the Davis Cup final, Cochet beat Hennessey, 5—7, 9—7, G—3, 6—o. The Cochet-Henncssey match was a magnificent struggle, both hitting out in preference to playing for safety. Thereafter Cochet asserted his superiority.
