PROVINCIAL STATUS.

REJECTION OF REMIT. AT FARMERS' CONFERENCE. UNFAIR TREATMENT ALLEGED. Complaint at the fact that a remit from tlie Waikato sub-provincial branch of the Farmers’ Union concerning the elevation of the branch to provincial status was taken in committee at the Provincial Conference when none of its supporters were present, was made by Mr T. H. Henderson at the executive meeting to-day. At the conference the remit was lost. Mr Henderson pointed out that this important subject concerning Waikato farmers did not receive fair consideration at the conference. It was brought forward between 9 and 10 p.m. in the evening when none of the country members were present. Mr R. H. Feisst replied that he was very much struck with the fair-minded way the chairman (Mr A. A. Ross) had dealt with the remit. The only reason the remit was discussed at that time was because the movers were away when,it was originally introduced. It was their own “funeral” if they were not there. Mr Henderson: I asked for a remit to be considered when the country members were there. Mr Feisst: You are carrying this too far and it is not fair for you to raise this point. No Co-ordination. Mr A. Hanna considered a remit oC this nature should have come before the executive before going to the conference. There had been no co-ordina-tion whatever. Mr S. R. Gox, who presided, expressed the hope that in future such matters would be threshed out by the branch. They had to benefit by experience. When the remit was presented the movers did not know, what to do or say. Mr Feisst added that steps were taken as early as last March to bring the matter of provincial status forward.

Mi- Ramsay: In any case there are certain things which should not be published. Mr Henderson: And there are certain things that should. A motion proposed by Mr Henderson, that anything of importance to country districts should uot he held at 10 p.in. at conference when members had left, was lost on the voices.
