COUNCIL LIABLE.
LIGHTS ON BENZINE PUMPS. MORRINSVILLE BOROUGHS ACTION Willi a view to ascertaining the extent of the council's liability in the event of accidents occurring through kerbside benzine pumps being insufficiently lighted, the Morrinsville Borough Gouncii recently- sought the opinion of its solicitor. • k If was pointed out in the lengthy legal opinion submitted at the meeting last evening that the council Were liable through accidents occurring through no light being attached to a benzine pump.
Mr Chapman pointed out that if the liability '-was thrown on the council they would have - to see that proper lights were attached to the bowser pumps in order to minimise the possibility of accidents.' The 'only way to deal with the matter would be to order any garage owner who' failed to have the necessary light attached to dismantle his pump. It was decided to refrain;from issuing new licenses for the, coming year pending, a report on the matter from the Finance Committee.
