CHEAP FARES FROM EVERYWHERE.
i Recognising the immense educational value of the Waikato Winter Show, the Department, in conjunction with the Association has arranged to place facilities in the way of every resident of the North Island, of getting to the show cheaply. A big schedule of special trains has been drawn up, with exceptionally cheap fares from all parts, so that no excuse is left those who desire to do so for not attending. There will be farmers’ specials picking up passengers all the way from Wellington and waiting for branch line communications, while the East Coast and the far north will also have their special to the show. The trip will be made interesting by the presence aboard of officers of the Agricultural Department, who will point out the features of the countryside as the trains progress and who will deliver lecutres on subjects of interest to farmers. There will also be maps affixed to the walls of some of the carriages to enable passengers to follow the journey through, and in some cases special booklets, descriptive of the country travelled through, will be circulated amongst the by railway agents. This enterprise on the part of the Department is highly commendable and the “ specials ” are certainly worthy of patronage. The railways, after all, are the property of all of us, and where it is possible to travel cheaply, speedily, in comfort and safety by a State-owned service, it is our duty to do so in preference to journeying by other forms of locomotion. i
