DRAINAGE BOARD.
ELSTOW. The monthly meeting of the Elstow Drainage Board was held at Te Aroha on Saturday. Mr W. J. Andrews presided. There were also-, present Messrs M. 11. Wynyard, W. A. Carter, W. T. Dale, A. Davey and H. 0. Priest. Referring to Burton’s outlet drain, the chairman stated that a request had been made to clear it,' but lie required the sanction of the hoard. The ratepayers had been met on the work. He moved that the board take over Burton's outlet drain. Mr Dale said the board had formed a special rating area and was liable for work required on it.—The motion was carried. The Hauraki Drainage Board advised that it had no objection to the Elstow Board taking whatever steps it considered necessary to protect i’self from any water it considers may come from this district. —Mr Carter contended (hat the hoard was entitled to collect a pumping rate over the whole area. The Hauraki board, he said, would he throwing all their surplus water on to the board’s land. The board held 1000 acres which was 1 Sin. below their own lands. The Land Drainage Act provided for compensation for deliberate Hooding of lands. He urged that a claim he made.—lt was agreed to ask the Hauraki hoard if it would contribute to tne cost of relieving the position.
The Thames Valley Power Board advised that £27G lGs was due for installing pump at Awaili.—lt was agreed to pay on June 1, when debenture for loan would be isued.
Mrs Eastwood wrote offering £3 towards Grainger’s outlet.—lt was agreed to ask for £5.
The State Advances Office advised that the amount of the Awaltl special rating area loan of £SOOO was available, of which £3OOO was remitted.—Received.
