RAIN INTERFERES WITH PLAY. HARDINGE’S DOUBLE CENTURY. (By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.) LONDON, May 25. Rain interfered with this week's inter-county matches. Derby drew with Oxford University. The county scored 294 (Bowden 56, Townsend 52 not out). Oxford scored 149, and, following on, lost four wickets for 123. Mclntosh took four Derby wickets for 55 runs.

West Indies and Norfolk also drew. The visitors scored 149, and Norfolk 123, for nine wickets. Bendsmove, bowling for Norfolk, took five wickets for 37. _

Middlesex beat Worcester by an innings and 35 runs. Worcester scored 225 and 176 (Jewell 93 ', and Middlesex declared with seven wickets down for 436 (Hearne 51, Hendren 101 not out). Bowling for Middlesex, Hearne took five wickets for 76 in the second innings. Root, bowling for Worcester, captured five for 129.

Kent beat Gloucester by an innings and 66 runs. Gloucester's scores were 174 gnd 239 (Sinfield 61, Hammond 60). Freeman took five wickets in the first innings for 72. Kent declared their first innings closed with six down for 479 (Hardinge 263 not out, Woolley 107). Northants beat Yorkshire on the frst innings. Northants scored 164 (J. Timmins 70) and- 50 for three. Rhodes took five wickets for 73 in the first innings. Yorkshire’s innings yielded- 149, Thomas taking five wickets for 41.

Notts beat Cambridge University by seven wickets. The University scored 177 and 106. Staples took seven wickets for 44 and five for 37. Notts scored 139 (Carr 55) .and 85 for The New Zealander, Blundell, took six wickets for 51 in the first innings. Sussex and Surrey drew in a match which does not count for .the championship. Sussex declared with four wickets down for 139 (Bowley 52 not out) and Surrey scored 82 for two.
