BIG FIRE AT PICTON.

A SIX-ROOMED BUILDING

TOTALLY DESTROYED. MYSTERIOUS OUTBREAKS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, Monday. Another mysterious fire occurred here in the early hours of Sunday morning, completely destroying Jensen’s building at Picton. The building contained between 60 and 70 rooms, in addition to shops, etc., on the ground floor. The building was erected 20 years ago, being intended for hotel purposes, but no license was granted, and the structure had been more or less of a white elephant ever since. The only portion occupied was two rooms on the ground floor, where Mr G. E. Moffatt’s dental parlours were situated. The fire originated in the deserted upper storey and spread with extraordinary rapidity. Mr G. E. Townshend’s ten-roomed residence adjoining caught Are, but a great fight by the brigade saved it with more or less damage done. Jensen’s building was completely destroyed. Following the destruction of the local school last week, the Are is one of a series of mysterious outbreaks in Picton.

The only insurance on the building was £I,OOO in the Royal. Mr Moffatt had £760 in the same office. Mr Townshcnd's house was insured for £1,250 and the contents for £450 in the Sun office. %
