CREAM TRADING.

PRESENT SYSTEM UPHELD. . MAINTAINING TIIE QUALITY. HOPES OF MR GROUNDS. (Bv Telegraph—Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Monday. A motion expressing the opinion that it was not desirable that any change should be made in the existing system of cream-grading was carried unanimously to-day at the annual meeting of the North Auckland Dairy Conference. The question of adhering to the present compulsory system was raised by Mr W. M. Singleton, director of the Dairy Division. He thought the conference should pass the resolution, since a proprietary company had expressed the opinion that first and second grades should he paid for on the same basis. The regulation fixing grading for differential payments was finest, first and second grades. There was a great deal to be said for the existing system, which had been in the interests of the industry and had done much to improve quality. Mr W. Grounds, chairman of the Dairy Board, was among a large number of speakers who supported the existing system. The latest figures showed that 79.84 per cent, of the cream sent to factories by New Zealand suppliers was finest, 19.23 per cent, first grade, and only .93 per cent second grade. Thus it would he a retrograde step to revert to a non-differential system. Mr Grounds had hopes that in the not-distant future the whole of the Dominion's butter would be of “ finest ” quality.
