NEW SUNDAY SCHOOL.

AT TE AWAMUTU. THE OPENING CEREMONY. The new’ Presbyterian Sunday school in Te Awamutu was opened on Wednesday afternoon, when about 250 parishioners attended. After a hymn and prayer Rev. Butterworth handed the key of the building to Dr. A. Henderson. Mr H. Mandeno announced that the managers had decided to present Dr. Henderson with a memento of the occasion. The token was a beautifully polished piece of kauri, part of the old building in which Dr. Henderson had laboured as Sunday school superintendent for a long period of years. The .memento was suitably inscribed. A telegram was received from Miss E. Heed, from Perth, Western Australia, formerly an ardent churchworker and Sunday school teacher. Dr. Henderson who was received with applause, said lie felt deeply honoured by his selection lo perform the opening ceremony. lie thanked the Church people for their gift and . the thoughts that had prompted it. He referred to the origin of the movement to erect the hall. It was intended principally as a memorial to the late Mr W. H. Mandeno, one of the stalwart pioneers of Presbyterianism and settlement in the district. He said tne present staff was to be congratulated on the fine new building. He complimented all those responsible, especially Messrs J. W. Civil, R. Ross, G. W. Ricket, and A. 11. Christie who had all rendered valuable work.—Applause. Mr D. S. Reid, M.P., congratulated the Presbyterian community upon providing such a fine building. He felt there was a real need for advancing Christ's teaching. It was important to give the young people a sound training in those principles. Mr S. G. Macky said he was gratified to he able to assist at the opening; for the late Mr Mandeno had been an associate ol‘ his, on local bodies, and no man could have been held in higher esteem. The Deputy Mayor, Mr G. Spinley, also added his congratulations. Rev. James Hay (Cambridge), conveyed congratulations from the Wai - kato Presbyterians, lie appealed for more help by adults in the Sunday school. Rev. Butterworth concluded illc ceremony by expressing the congregations Blanks to Dr, Henderson and Bie other speakers.
