KILLIP SHIELD GAMES. OLD BOYS AND 'POURI WIN. Y.M.C.A. AND HINEMOA DRAW.

The third series of games in the first round of the Waikato Hockey Association's championship were played on Saturday at Steele, Park. Old Roys accounted for Kalpaki, while Hinemoa and Y.M.C.A. played a drawn game. At Ngahinapouri Colls suffered defeat in a keen game.

Old Boys 4 v. Kaipaki 1.

The game opened with rapid exchanges of long hitting, without advantage. Old Roys found themselves kept busy by the hustling play of Kaipaki, but solid defence kept their goal intact. Play travelled from end to end but poor circle work nullified results, the first spell ending without score. On resuming Old Roys were aggressive, and playing sounder hockey they kept their opponents very busy. Welldeveloped forward movements resulted in the winners netting on four occasions, while Kaipaki, who were not combining well, netted onoe. A vigorous game ended with the score: Old Boys 4 Kaipaki 1 Mr. L. Jackson refereed. Hinemoa 3 v. Y.M.C.A. 3.

Y.M.C.A. fielded their best team so far, and gave a good account of them-selves,-with promise of better things lo come. The opening play was sensational, both teams scoring in the first few minutes. When play settled down, the ball travelled from goal to goal in a series of bright movements. Y.M. netted agaiu, only to sec Hinemoa draw level. Nearing half-time, Y.M. again pressed strongly, and in a well-maintained attack netted their third goal. After the interval play continued fast and open, sound defensive work by both sides being a feature. Hinemoa, in a snappy moment, got the circle and evened the score. Strenuous efforts by both sides were spoilt by over-eagerness, and a splendid game ended: Y.M.C.A 3 Hinemoa 3 Mr W. G. Fabling referecd. Ngahinapouri 3 v. Colts O. Colts visited Ngahinapouri and suffered their first reverse this season. In a keenly-contested game. 'Pouri took the honours, the final scores being Ngahinapouri 3 Colts 0 Mr. R. McGaw referecd.
