A DARING THEFT.

DIAMOND RING STOLEN. OFFENCE BY TAXI-DRIVER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The story of the theft of a diamond •ring, valued at £750, from Jenness and Partridge, jewellers, by Trevor Leonard Richard Cunningham, aged 28, taxi-driver, was related in the Supreme Court to-day. Evidence was given that accused went to oomplaintants’ shop, when he stated that his name was Lowry, a racehorse owner. He was shown ■ a ring, which he look to the door, presumably to see it better, and then ran away with it. Accused was seen later in the afternoon by Detective Jarrold showing the ring to someone in a bar. When . accused saw the detective he put the ring down one of his socks.

He pleaded guilty and was committed for sentence at the Supreme Court.
