MURDERED CONSTABLE.
ACCUSED ARRAIGNED. SEPARATE TRIALS APPLIED FOR. REFUSED BY THE COURT. (Australian Press Association.) (Received April 24, 11.15 a.m.) LONDON, April 23. The trial of Kennedy and Browne for the alleged murder of Constable Gutteridge, has commenced at the Old Bailey. Both prisoners counsel applied for separate trials. The Solicitor-General (Sir W. T. Inskip), who is prosecuting opposed the application on the ground that the men were commonly engaged in a joint purpose, which resulted in murder. His Honour Mr Justice Avary refused the apjbcatioa.
