SERIOUS CHARGE.
AGAINST WELLINGTON DOCTOR. HANDED A £SO NOTE. WELLINGTON, Monday. Dr. Joseph Patrick Hcnnessy, ageo. 32, medical practitioner, was chargea in the Magistrate's Court to-day witu having "on March 24 unlawfully uscl. an instrument on a woman. Mr Page was on the Bench. Mr Macassey prosecuted for the Crown, Mr Singer appeared for accused, and Messrs Kennedy and Leicester for the principal witnesses. The Court was cleared. The Magistrate ordered the suppression of the names of the woman and man concerned in the case. The woman in evidence said that on March 2 i she visited Dr. Hcnnessy and handed him a £SO note, which had been given her by the man in the case. She again visited Hennessy's surgery in the evening. The doctor gave her an address of a house, where she wem and where the doctor visited her several times. As a result of what happened she was removed to hospital. The prinicpal male witness also gave evidence, stating that D. Hcnnessy agreed to perform an operation. Accused pleaded not guilty, reserved his defence and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Bail was allowed in £250, and one surety of £250.
CHARGE AGAINST DALMATIAN. DARGAVILLE, Monday. At the Dargavillc Police Court today, before Messrs F. A. Jones, and F. J. Dargaville, ,f.'sP., Jako Shandondich, a Dalmatian storekeeper, of Aratapu, was charged with rape and attempted rape on a married woman of the settlement. After lengthy evidence had been heard accused pleaded not guilty and reserved his defence. He was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Auckland.
