OBITUARY.
LATE MR. A. J. BOND. WELL-KNOWN BUSINESS MAN. A well-known and highly-respected Hamilton resident has been removed by the death of Mr Alfred James Bond, at his home, Grey Street, yesterday. Born in Cambridge 43 years ago, the late Mr Bond was the son of the late Mr J. S. Bond, an early settler and an ex-Mayor of Hamilton. He had spent most of his life in the Waikato. On leaving school Mr Bond learned the printing business, and subsequently worked with his father at the Public Trust Office. When the war broke out he was one of the first to enlist as a lieutenant in the 16th. Waikato Regiment. Throughout the war Mr Bond was on active service. He was wounded at Gallipoli and was gassed twice in grance, being twice mentioned in despatches. After the war Mr Bond returned to Hamilton and became a partner of the printing establishment of Bond s Limited, with which he was associated up to tha time of his death. He was also identified with the Auckland firm of Michael and Bond.
A familiar figure in local business circles, the late Mr Bond was secretary of the Hamilton Retailers' Association for a number of years. Before the war Mr Bond took an intense interest in hockey and played for Hamilton for some years until 1913. He was also a representative of the Waikato team. When the Waikato team toured the North Island in the Norden Cup contest Mr Bond acted as manager. For a period he was secretary to the Waikato Hockey Association. Mr Bond was formerly an enthusiastic tennis player, while the game of bowls claimed his attention for many years. About eight years ago he joined the Golf'Club and became one of the most prominent, players. His untimely death is greatly regretted. Mr Bond is survived by his wife.
A private funeral will take place this afternoon.
