RACING.

TE AROHA NOTES

LATEST FROM THE TRACKS. (Special to Times.) TE AROHA. Friday. In the early part of the present racing season the Peramorz gelding, Mosque, half brother to that good, performer Mosaic was a member of A. E. Cox's team. He, however, failed ■to come up to the standard of the same owners' Mosaic and Nancy Lee, so -was sent over to the East Coast. Mosque scored at Opotiki this month and followed this up by winning the Herries Memorial Handicap at Tauranga. Nancy Lee In Favour. Nancy Lee, 7,12, is highly thought of by local sportsmen, for the Auckland Easter Handicap. It It considered that she will relish the lower weight, while the state of the track at Ellerslie will be to her liking. As ~ a matter of fact, the Lucullus mare ■-"lnvariably runs good races at Auckj land, and her seconds in the Railway - and Newmarket Handicaps respective- \ ly, three months ago, prove this. It ; would appear that she is undergoing ; a special preparation for the mile race, and is certainly galloping in good style. The Avondale Meeting. It te expected that Te Aroha will be » well represented at the Avondale 3 meeting. . The entrants are: King * Amans, Lady Spalpeen, Potoanui, 2 Wattzer, Orchus, Lady's Boy, Valkon, 3 Queen Arch, Taurimu, Nancy Lee, ;' Elope, and Lucy Rose, and it is *• thought that practically all will be ~;; accepted for. Te Aroha West Team. in'" Mr R. B. Hines' horses, known as i'.i the Te Aroha West team, did best of p the local performers at Tauranga, »j Waltzer winning the President's Haek Sj Handicap, and Queen Arch ruining a ?'• good second in the Cup. King Lu and §1 King Arch have done very little work Ell lately, but will make their reappear--..'.""''ance with the colours up in due B course. s Lucy Rose Improving. Since winning at the Ohinemuri I meeting Lucy Rose seems to have a further improved and although handifc capped at 8.5 in the Onslcw Stakes at % . Auckland, should run a really good ¥■■■ race. j£ Potoanui and King Amans. a ' The Te Aroha probable starters in 3 the Brighton Hurdles are Lady Spal- | peen, Potoanui and King Amans. So far g as this trio is concerned the choice of -*' riders will be an important factor in their chances. The handicapper must have been considerably impressed With the form shown at Paeroa by King Amans, as he has asked him to 5 concQde 51bs to a much better perforg mer in Potoahui, with 9.1, and a I capable rider, the latter has been 3 given a rare chance of racing prominently. The Waiorongomal Horses. . Members of Mr J. Hanks' string do I a considerable portion of their work Q at the homestead at Waiorongomal, I ;and are therefore riot such regular B .'.visitors to the Te Aroha tracks as jjj ,:•' other teams. High-Flown, who won the Rahotu Hurdles at Taranaki on : ""• Boxing Day is again in very nice trim, Potoanui is In tip top condition and Thanks and Flitter are well formed, | but on recent efforts it would appear ' i- that they require to meet small fields to have chances of victory. A Holiday Trip. ■ "' E„ A. Keesing contemplates leaving on a holiday trip to Australia about the first week in May. He will probably stay during the winter months, and as there will bo a number of New Zealand horses competing on " "the other side," will do a certain amount of riding. A Likely Steeplechaser. ■r- At present Syd. Walker is handling -".a fine big gelding by St. Amans — Warrigal mare. He stands well over • Sixteen hands, and looks likely to furnish into a typical cross country horse. Warrigal was by Hu Katerc, by Ingor mar, so &n both sides there are splen- • did jumping strains. Lady's Boy Bright and Well. Since winning at the Opotiki meet r ing Lady's Boy has not been asked to do much fast work. Judging by the way he galloped with Lucy Rose this • week he is forward in condition, and with his quick beginning qualities it is quite on the cards that he will increase his winning score very soon. Track Work. On Thursday morning a fair number of horses were worked early, while the Hines and Wallace teams were expected after breakfast. Lucy Rose and Lady's Boy, with fair 'weights up, ran four furlongs outside the trestles, in 52 sees., finishing together. Nancy Lee and Valkon were **• associated in a five furlongs spin, run in 1.5. Valkon probably the most im--0 ' proved of the local homes, appeared to *'*•' 'be going the best at the finish. King L, Amans, looking fresh and well, ran out *«■*■ a solid mile, While Upoko put in two rounds at a medium pace. Slow work was allotted Orchus, Taurimu and Glenstar. Volimond and Te Apurangi executed nice work once round. The ' latter is improving and may make' a ... good three-year-old. Team Changes. SjL Town Bird wrenched a joint while £ competing at Paeroa and will be on m the easy list for some time. G. A. M Reid, his trainer, is putting Marble jn King into work again. After racing P at Tauranga unsuccessfully, Queen m Cornel was thrown out of work, but " trainer Carmont has just added to his ■ tram the Limond —Tivoli iilly, Volimond owned by Mr P. A. Swney, of ; Waihou. Of Mr It. 13. 'fines' team King I.ii and Musketoon have not been on the track lately, and will not be .' racing for some time. Lady Spalpeen ■jf and Waltzer, recent winners look all \ the better for their racing. The work { executed lately by Te Koroke has been •I satisfactory, and the Humbug gelding- ' is expected to fulfil bis Auckland engagements. .
