TE AROHA BOROUGH.

MEETING OF COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Te Aroha Borough Council was held on Wednesday evening, the Mayor (Mr R. Coulter) in the chair. There were also present Crs J. C. Carroll, G. Hedge, E. A. Bruce. V. G. Hamilton, G. Smith, G. Burmester, and D. McMahon. The clerk reported that the water supply account showed a profit of £9OO for the year. The quarry foreman, Mr J. Pilling, reported that 438 yards of metal had been crushed for the month, at a cost of €ll3 Is. If. was agreed to transfer £3OO from water supply account to the general account. Accounts to pass totalled £1127 is iOd in general account and £l7 5s 5d on streets loan account. The bank overdraft, was £2860 8s Od. The Treasury advised that £O7 13s Od was Indeed to the council's credit for goldfields revenue. Water Supply Scheme. Messrs Jones and Adams, engineers, submitted plans and specifications for the provision of a greater water supply at. Te Aroha. It was agreed to defer consideration of the question till next meeting. A local proprietor made application to screen a picture on Good Friday. Cr. Bruce moved thai the application should be declined, but if was sanctioned on the casting vote of the, Mayor. The Matamata Town Board requested the council's support in having the To Aroha-Manawaru road brought up to an efficient, state through the Highways Board, as it had evidently been overlooked. The council decided to await- the decision of thr Piako County Council, it being pointed out. that the borough was favourable. Mr Edwin Edwards, who has been rated as the owner of a Te Aroha seclion for eight years, made application for a refund of rates on the ground that it had recently been ascertained from the Commissioner of Lands that the. land was wrongly granted by the warden, being land outside the mining district. Council decided to write off the past three years' rales, but not to grant, any refund. It was agreed to have the cycling track put in order by the foreman for the Easter sports.
