THE ROTORUA RACES. FIRST DAY’S RESULTS. CORINAX WINS THE CUP. ARCHEEN TAKES THE MOKOIA. (Special to Times.) ROTORUA. Saturday. The weather was fine to-day for the opening day of the Rotorua Racing Club’s annual meeting, and there was a large attendance, while the course was In good order. The Takapuna-trained Dress Circle, carrying £438, was favourite from Pekatahi (£436) and Bold Front (£344). Day Abbey was the early leader from Dress Circle, Master Lu, Wiltshire, Bold Front, Lady Spalpeen, and Lady Cintra. Along the back the order was Day Abbey, Master Lu, Dress Circle, Lady Cintra, Wiltshire, Lady Spalpeen, Pekatahi, and Bold Front last. Dress Circle led into the straight, with Master Lu, Lady Spalpeen and Wiltshire closest of the others. Dress Circle stayed on to win by 1A lengths from Wiltshire, with Lady Spalpeen a length further back third. Master Lu was fourth, followed by Pekatahi, Lady Cintra, Bold Front, and Day Abbey. Time, 1.45.

Young Pretender was first out from Day Guide, Leitrim, and La Roma, -Along the back La Roma led from Lei- , trim, Young Pretender, Bright Comet, Day Guide, and Palmares. Across the top La Roma was still the pilot from Leitrim, Young Pretender, Bright Comet, Day Guide, and Palmares. La Roma was first into the straight from Leitrim, Young Pretender, .Cybele, and Glenetta. The leader was not troubled to win by two lengths from Young Pretender, who beat Bright Comet by half a length.. Glenetta was a head away fourth, and then came Cybele, Miss Myrtle, Palmares, and Leitrim, the last five hunched. Time, 1.15 2-5.

The Te Rapa candidate Macroom, carrying £699 10s, was first choice of investors, Archeen, who is also locally trained (£676 10s), and Quincoma (£411) being next in demand. Quincoma was first to become prominent from New Moon, Prince Lu, Queen .\rch, The Author, Archeen, and Macroom, the latter not getting away too well. Going out to the back Queen Arch fell. Prince Lu led the field along this stretch, followed by Quincoma, New Moon, Archeen, The Author, and Macroom. Across the top Prince Lu was the pilot from Aroheen, Quincoma and New Moon, with The Author and Macroom at the rear. As they came into the straight the order was Prince Lu, Archeen, Quincoma, Macroom (who had made up ground fast) and New Moon. Archeen saw the journey out nicely to get the verdict by three-quarters of a length from Quincoma, with New Moon finishing fast a neck away third. Prince Lu was fourth, being followed by Macroom and The Author. Time, 1.31 3-5.

An inquiry was held into the falling of Queen Arch. It showed that she had got on to the heels cf New Moon, interfering with him and also with Macroom. Further evidence indicated that Queen Arch was a bad-mouthed mare, and this had contributed to the accident. The explanation was accepted, and no action taken. N. Davey, the rider of Queen Arch, was sent to hospital.

Corinax, Uralla, Scat, Le Choucas, Siaosi. Alonsoa and Lord Star. Along the back Gala Day led from Corinax, Uralla, Le. Choucas, Scat, Siaosi. Alonsoa and Lord Star. Corinax had charge crossing the top from Gala Day, Uralla, Lc Choucas, and Siaosi. Gala Day and Corinax entered the, straight well clear of Siaosi and then Lc Choucas, Alonsoa and Uralla. In a good finish Corinax beat Gala Day by a neck, with Siaosi three-quarters of a length back, third, and Le Choucas one and a-half lengths away fourth. Next to finish were Scat, Lord Star, Alonsoa and Uralla. Time, 2.8 3-5.
