George Remus, who, at the time of his imprisonment in Atlanta, penitentiary, was called "the king of the bootleggers," shot and killed bis wife, says a New York paper. Mrs Remus was on her way to the Divorce Court, where it was expected that a final deoision would be given in the suit she began while her husband was in prison. With her adopted daughter Ruth, aged 19, she was riding in a taxicab through the park in Cincinnati, when she saw her husband's motor car in pursuit. Alarmed, she jumped from the taxicab and started to run through the park, but Remus overtook her and fired one shot into her body. He then,re-entered his car, drove to the police station, and surrendered. ■ Mrs Remus ■ died two hous later in hospital. Remus had accused his wife ot keeping £200,000 in securities which be had entrusted to her when he was sent to prison. His profits from bootlegging at the time of his arrest were said to total £1,300.000. lie lived in a suburb of Cincinnati in a £200,000 palaoe with a marble swimming pool that cost £20,000.
