E. C. BEALE'S ELEVEN. PLAY WAIKATO ON SATURDAY. A MATCH AT SEDDON PARK. The Auckland touring cricket team, which is to play here ou Saturday, is organised and managed by Mr E. C. Beale, the well-known Auckland enthusiast, who has. done so much' for the game generally ,aud especially for the younger brigade, in rece'nt years. Mr Beale has had .in his mind for some time the idea of organising a touring team for the purpose not only of providing experience for promising youngsters, but of giving to the Minor Associations the opportunity of meeting players from the city, and Ills idea materialised at Easter, 1915, when his first "Auckland Touring Cricket Team" set out for Hawke's Bay and Poverty Bay. The members of this pioneer band were: —E. C. Beale (captain), R. H. Burton, C. C. Dacre, L. Dacre, R. Doble, Mark Gilmore, W. 11. Graham, E. A. Heigh way, A. M. Haresnape, A. H. Osborne, R. W. Rowntree,.C. A. Sneddon, F. S. Taylor and R. Walker. Osborne. R. W. Dacre and R. Worker, afterwards to bo New Zealand representatives, were having their first experience of cricket against outside Associations. Lapse During the War. Owing to the war, no further ,tour was undertaken until 1922-3, when North and South Taranaki, Fielding, and Manawatu were visited. The team on this occasion included J. E. Mills and J. P. Gerrard, then each 17 years of age, who were having their first experience of representative cricket, also W. L. Elliott and I. W. Cooper, all four of whom subsequently represented Auckland. Mills, of course, is now well-known as a New Zealand representative. Some Later Tours. 'ln the following season, when the team travelled to Nelson and Marlboroughj it included future Auckland representatives in L. T. J. Monteith, A. J. Postles and A. H. Scott. The 1924-5 tour, wbich extended as far south as Invercargill, possessed a special interest for Hamilton, in that L. G. Hemus was captain of the team, and E. W. Hughes was included in the side, and in the following season the team made its first appearance in Hamilton, defeating a Waikato Eleven by an innings and 69 runs. With this defeat to wipe off the slate, the Waikato players will doubtless be keyed up to their best on Saturday. It is interesting to note that L. G. Hemus and S. A. R. Badeley, who were included in the Auckland team on that occasion, are this year in the Waikato ranks. Widespread Benefits. At the conclusion of the 1926-7; tour to Hawke's Bay and the East j Coast, in which A. F. Weir, who gains ' his Auckland cap for the first time this season took part, the team had played every minor association affiliated to the New Zealand Cricket Council from Hamilton to Invercargill, except the West Coast and South Canterbury Associations. It will thus be seen in this respect the original object of the tours has been carried into effect, and it is to be hoped that the Hamilton public will show their appreciation of Mr Beale's services to cricket in the smaller centres by attending in force the forthcoming match. 4 Since the inception of the team it has played 29 matches, winning 17, drawing 11, and losing 1. The only defeat the team has sustained was in 1922, at the hands of North Taranaki, who made 331 and 3 for two wickets against the tourists' 126 and 207'. . i THE WAIKATO ASSOCIATION. ARRANGEMENTS FOR SATURDAY. The meeting of the Waikato Cricket Asso'ciallon was held last night when there were present Messrs Toombs, Whiting, Christian, Cooper, Rabone, Mitchell, Reid and the secretary. Mr Reid presided. Apologies were received from Messrs Hawke and Allen.

A letter from the Piako Association accepting a match to be played in Hamilton on December 27, was received, and notification from the Maniapoto Cricket Association sLating that they would be sending a team through on January 2. Mr E. C. Bcale notified that J. Langridge, the Sussex professional, at present in Auckland, would be a. member

of his team; and offered his services for the purpose of coaching a few cricketers prior to the commencement of his match versus Waikato. Bcgistration of players from Technical Old Boys and Railways were approved. The treasurer's statement showed a balance in hand after payment of all 'accounts. . It was resolved that the Emergency Committee deal with all arrangements for holiday matches, Messrs Whiting and Taylor to be added. Grounds and Emergency Committee reports were received. Match With Beale's Eleven. . It was decided that the following hours of play be fixed: —10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.; 1.45 p.m. to 4 pm.; 4.15 p.m. to 7 p.m. The game will commence promptly at . the times stated. The Umpires' Association will be notified and asked to arrange for the umpires for this game: The ground fees for holiday matches were fixed at 2s 6d per head per game if; played on grass , wickets, and. 2s if played on matting. It, was resolved to ask permission to charge on the dates allotted to the .Canterbury match.
