Tennis Dance,

A very successful function was held by the Tennis Club in the Tauhei Memorial Hall last week. The floor was just comfortably filled for dancing. The ladies of the club had the hall very tastefully decorated, and they also provided an excellent supper. The music was in the capable hands of Mr and Miss Howarth, of Morrinsville. Messrs P. Clark and R. Haycock acted as M's.G. The proceeds from this dance are going towards improving the tennis courts, which the club hopes to concrete in the near future. Valedictory. On Wednesday, December 14, a large gathering was held in the hall to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs A. Watson, who have migrated lo fresh pastures. The committee had spared no trouble to make the function a success and its efforts were well rewarded. Mr J. Noble made the presentation. He said that Tauhei was losing a sterling settler who had always done his duty to the district and had been prominent in everything that concerned the wellfarc of the community. Mr Noble mentioned especially Mr Watson's efforts as chairman for many years of the Tauhei school committee, and as a member and president of the local hall society. .Airs Watson had also helped greatly in all local functions, etc. .Mr Watson, in responding on behalf of himself and Mrs Watson, was greeted with musical honours. Mr Watson briefly thanked his friends in Tauhei for (heir gifts and for the many kind expressions of goodwill. Dancing was kept up till a late hour. Miss Howarth presided at the piano and Mr B. Haycock acled as M.G. The ladies provided the supper. The evening closed with the singing of " Auld Lang Sync." Haymaking. Tauhei is very busy getting in hay just now and will be for a week or so, the weather being almost ideal for the purpose. The hay is not quite, as heavy as usual, but being well saved will be of excellent quality. Roads. The contractors for the formation work on the main Tauhei-Morrinsvillc Road, Waikato County, arc making good progress, and the metalling of same road in the Piako area by the Piako County Council is getting on well.
