TERRORISM IN CANTON.
A COMMUNIST COUP.
MUCH STREET FIGHTING. HONGKONG, Dec. 12. A reign of terror prevails in Canton, where Communism is supreme. The trouble occurred following a coup by Communist labourers and peasants, when 5000 seized polioe stations .disarmed the force, and occupied Government buildings.
The ranks of the attackers were swelled by students and other sympathisers. Many police were killed. Proclamations have been issued calling on the people to support Communism and co-operate with Soviet Russia.
Hundreds of prisoners have been released from prisons.
At least 20 big fires were started. There was fighting in the streets throughout the day, and looting was universal.
According to the Communists there is now no Government and no work in Canton. They claim the conditions are just as good as in Soviet Russia.
