AUCKLAND DEEDS OFFICE.
HAMILTON THE CENTRE. SEPARATE BRANCH NEEDED. Some years ago an effort was made to have a separate branch of the Deeds Office established at Hamilton. Various local bodies took the matter up, and the great inconvenience suffered by residents of South Auckland by having to refer all business with the Land Board to the Auckland Office, was stressed in a letter to the Minister.
\ it was pointed out that Hamilton was even more central than Auckland for such an office, taking the land district as a whole. Although there is a branch of the Lands Office at Hamilton, all records are kept at Auckland, and settlers are put to considerable,-, expense in having to travel to the city to transact their land business. On top of this there is the inconvenience and delay which attaches to dealing with an office so far away. 'The Minister on that occasion went fully into the matter, and decided that to establish a branch of the Deeds Office at Hamilton would be a collossal task, as it would entail making duplicate’ copies of every deed in the Auckland Office, which in itself would occupy several years. The Minister intimated that the proposal was outside the bounds of probability at the time. It is now felt in certain quarters that the subject should be revived.
