There are about 500 wireless sets licensed in Hamilton. During the last three months 85 licenses were issued.
Richard Lee, farmer, of Hamilton, has been adjudicated a bankrupt on a creditor’s petition.
A burglary occurred at the premises of Mr D. Leach, baker, Paeroa, on Thursday night, and £2 10s was taken.
Late entries for the Hamilton Horticultural Society’s Show, to he held on Tuesday, will close at noon on Monday, November 7.
In the street collection made by the St. John Ambulance Association at Auckland yesterday, barely £7OO was collected of the £2OOO urgently required.
fi’he takings at the Manawatu Show at Palmerston North this week were £33 better than last year. Figures are as follows:—Final day, 1927, £799 7s 9d; final day, 1926, £B4O 2s 6d; total for 1927, £1309 18s; total for 1926, £1276 10s 9d; increase for 1927, £33 7s 3d.
A plex for the renovation of the bath-houses at Rotorua was entered by Mr F. F. Hockly in the House of Representatives yesterday. He stated that the action of the chemicals on the buildings made them repugnant to people in ill health. A coat of paint would do very little good. It was a big job, but one that is worth doing.
Vendors of fertilisers will be required, as from June 1, 1928, to furnish to purchasers invoice certificates setting out the forms and percentages- of the ingredients, as well as of the fillers or dilutents present, for the Legislative Council passed the Fertilisers Bill in its original form. An amendment made by the Agricultural and Pastoral Committee of the Council, deleting the above provisions, was defeated by a large majority.
Much annoyance was caused to play-goers at the Allan Wilkie performance of “Hamlet” at the Theatre Royal last night by the late and rowdy re-entry of some people after the interval. The interval was a short one, and perhaps the offenders thought it would be longer, and so did not hurry to re-enter the theatre. But there was no excuse for the noise with which re-entry was made. There was an indignant “Sh!” from disturbed playgoers, but it seemed to have little effect.
