When the field settled down Gala Day had charge from Day Guard, In the Shade, Nucleus, Sleepy Sol, Master Doon, and King Smock. Across the top the order was Gala Day, Day Guard, Sleepy Sol, In the Shade, Nucleus, Mosaic, King Smock, Master Doon, and Flying Juliet, Gala Day led into the straight from Day Guard, In the Shade, Sleepy Sol, Nucleus and Mosaic. Gala Day stayed on well to win by a long neck from In the Shade, with Mosaic, who finished fast, a head away third. Saiosi was fourth, followed by Day Guard, Flying Juliet, Pegaway, Nucleus, Ilipo, In Ihe Shade, Sleepy Sol, Papatu, Golden Krist, King Smock and Master Doon. Time, lrnin 31 l-ssec.

Le Choucas, with £1516, was first choice of investors, Branson being supported to the extent of £1362 and Serang carrying £994. Nastori made the early running irom Te Koroke, Automne and Serang. As they levelled up for the run home the order was Nastori, Te Koroke, Branson, Serang and Le Choucas. Branson, Serang strongly to win by three-quarters of a length from Serang, with Te Koroke a neck away third. Nastori was fourth, followed by Archeno, Le Coucas and Automne. Time, 1.27 4-5.
