TE AROHA CLUB

The Anal game of the 1927 session took place on Friday evening, when a match, Town v. Country, was played, the following being the results (country players being mentioned first) : Sale lost to Kenrick; B. Park beat Burton; Wagstaff beat Parsons; Morphy lost to Burrows; Bullen lost to Gibbs; Mackay lost to Greenslade; Herbert beat Gilchrist; Boswell lost to Schell; Aicken beat 11. Lewis; Rowbotham beat Long. The game resulted in five wins each. After this the president, Mr A. V. Burton, presented the trophies won during the session:—Mr G. Sale, championship, Mr Long's and Mr Kenrick's • trophies; Mr Boswell won Mr Maddox's trophy; Mr Kenrick won the ladder competition and a replica of the Macdonald Cup; Mr Park won Mr Wagstaff's trophy. Mr Burton referred to the splendid effort of members during the year. Three telegraphic games were played with Gisborne, Hamilton, and Napier, and of these the two former were lost. Mr Kenrick also spoke of the advancement made by the club. A great deal of the success was due to the country members, who had very lovally stood by the club. He made special reference to Mr Maddox, who had recently won the championship at Auckland. Mr Maddox was one of the foundation members of the le <\roha Club, and he had been, with Mr Herbert, created a life member.
