BUSINESSMEN’S PROTEST.

“A CRYING SHAME.” CHRISTCHURCH, Friday. A vigorous protest, against legislation by Orders-in-Council was made today at the annual conference! of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, which resolved: “That all such legislation is improper, and that Orders-in-Gounoil should be limited to the issue of such machinery clauses or regulations as are necessary to give effect to acts of Parliament.”

Mr W. Gow, of Dunedin, said the system wa,s a crying shame, which was getting, worse daily.
