RATES ON NATIVE LANDS
DEPUTATION TO PREMIER. VIEWED FROM BOTH ANGLES. SUGGESTIONS TO BE DRAWN UP. {By Telegraph.—Prosn Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday. A. deputation, of representatives of local bodies chiefly of the King Country and North Auckland districts, wailed on tlic Premier to-day in reference to the difficulties in which the local bodies are placed through the large amounts of rates outstanding on native lands. At Mr Coates' suggestion the position was stated, from the point of view of the native owners as well as from the point of men of the county councils and it was agreed that a committee representative of both sides with the addition of the Secretary for the Lands Department, should meet in the afternoon and draw up recommendations for the consideration of the Government.
