Defendant (hard of hearing) : I'm opposed to gaol mcself! .u * «i v Sergeant: You were in a hansom cab ? Witness: There w's nothing handsome about it; it w's that one of Old Joe's down at Bridge Street! Witness: I tol' 'im to keep 'is mouth shut, otherwise 'e wouldn't be able to eat out of it! Solicitor: Of course, your Worship, the proof of the pudding is in the constable's evidence! >;; * i.- * Complainant: He did his absolute best to bite me. Sergeant: Whereabouts ? Complainant: Nowhere* He tried to bite me fr a sh.il.lin' 1 * . * 3> 0 Magistrate; Can this woman be found"? Sergeant: We can't lose her!
Defendant Will you give me time, please, y'r Worship ? Magistrate:: I'll probably give yott lime when I've heard the evidence! jj; 3: fit C 3 Sergeant: What was his attitude toward you while he was speaking to you ? Witness: I didn't sec him when I was speaking to him. Sergeant: Rubbish! Witness: I was speaking to Mm over the 'photic! Deposition clerk- Are you a married woman ? Female witness:. Well, I said me name was missus, didn't II :-.: * * ?■ Solicitor (reading client's bad language) : IFm, someone must have knocked his beer over and then put him out of the hotel, judging by tfiis!
